Oil on plug?

I was changing my plugs tonight and 5 of the 6 look fine. But the 6th cyl. Was covered in oil. When I look at the bottom of the cyl. It looks new inside where as the other 2 front ones (all I could see) were black inside.

Any idea whats going on? It looks to me that the 6th spark plug/wire isnt fireing.

Plugs don't ignite oil, plugs ignite gasoline....

That's how my engine went down, a bad piston ring on cylinder number was letting oil foul the spark plug. Do a compression test to confirm.

Re: Oil on plug?

This plug had 8000 miles on it when I discovered the problem:

I installed new plugs, and pulled them after about 400 miles. Note the chip out of it:

Re: Oil on plug?

I had a similar problem, and replacing the valve cover gaskets and the O-rings around the spark plug holes seemed to fix my problem.

Re: Oil on plug?

If the threads are getting wet in oil it's usually the valve cover O rings, but if the end of the plug is fouled, like mine was, that's much worse. I can't remember the compression numbers exactly, but the other 5 cylinders were around 180 or 190, and cylinder one was around 110...
