RPMS Climb - Car Doesnt Accelerate ???

I have an 01 2.5 ATX,, could this be the IMRC or a clogged cat, The fuel pump was changed 2 yrs ago. It usually happens at WOT or above 3500 rpms... Any ideas of what this could be would be helpful..thanks

Re: RPMS Climb - Car Doesnt Accelerate ???

A bad IMRC wouldn't let the RPMS increase - the engine would start to choke around 4000 RPMs and not get much higher than that. A clogged cat might cause weird things... but in any case, if the engine is actually revving up but the car isn't accelerating, I would think transmission.

Is this in every gear? Sounds like transmission slipping as well with the little information given.

take a look under the tb and rev the engine up and see if the secondaries work. if they are not it should rev up but you will have no power.

It could be a worn out clutch.

Confused Re: RPMS Climb - Car Doesnt Accelerate ???

Im also having this type of problem, ive got an 01 atx, and alot of the time when i floor it just wont go.In any gear at any speed.and then sometimes it'll run pretty good . Ive check the secondaries in park and they always open? could it be the fuel pump?i clean fuel system regularly.

Re: RPMS Climb - Car Doesnt Accelerate ???

So What Are You Saying The Rpms Go Up But The Car Is Not Moving With The Rpms? Or Its Not Accelerating As Fast As It Should? If The Rpms Are Going Up But The Car Is Not Gaining Speed It Is A Tranny Problem..

Probably not on an ATX.

Re: RPMS Climb - Car Doesnt Accelerate ???

Its like ill floor it and its as if im barley touchin the pedal. the rpms go slow just like the car so i dont think it would be the tranny.Sometimes i think the car should downshift when i floor it but it just sits in the same gear at like 3000 slowly climbing.I dont know if thats the same problem thoughplease someone got a idea?
