Leaking Fluids! Need Some Help and Advice

Hi,
I have a 2000 Cougar V6 Automatic. It has been leaking oil from the crank pulley for a little bit now. i always keep my eye on the oil level and haven't had a problem. The other day i took a look under neath the car and notice that i am also leaking trans fluid. it appears to be coming from the pan.

I was wondering, how hard is it to replace both of the gaskets?

does it require removing the engine or trans?

how much would this cost roughly?

When checking my trans fluid should it be checked after the engine is hot or cold?

Trans fluid should be checked while it is up to operating temperature and running. If you can't PRECISELY pinpoint the leaks then I would take the vehicle to a TRUSTED mechanic for a diagnosis. It may *appear* that you are leaking from the crank pulley but that might not actually be the case. It would be good to clean off the areas that have been fouled by fluids liberally, driven around for a bit, then put on a lift to see if the leaks can be further pinpointed. Guessing games can lead to costly, unnecessary repairs

EDIT: Make sure to keep your fluids filled, though! Don't want to throw a rod bearing or the like...

Re: Leaking Fluids! Need Some Help and Advice

Ok, i cleaned everything off. It is definitely leaking trans fluid from the front cover on the trans. i believe it is called the chain cover. And the oil is leaking from the pulley. i Think its called the crank pulley. About how many hours does something like this take to fix? I know a few Ford techs that can do work side work outside the dealer. What is a fair price to offer? Thanks
