Poor MPG
ok well this past weekend has been a very busy one with the cougar. I blacked out the interior except seats, windows and working on tail covers. I also changed plugs, cleaned MAF, plug wires, and fuel filter. looked over the coil pack and it seems to be ok. Washed and cleaned it up really good. Filled in where the rear wiper was.
Now my question is I filled up twice this weekend. I noticed that I was only getting like 15.6mpg I know i should be getting more but my question is could this be caused by my transmission not having 4th gear. it is an atx slushbox (actually is really quick). I used motorcraft plugs and plug wires I got from the ford dealership. But just needed input on this.

Re: Poor MPG
Did you fill up when your 'put gas in me' light came on? If so it's probably lying to you. Same with the MPG readings on the dash in the car. It can fluxuate pretty wildly from your actul mpg, which can cause your 'put gas in me' light to come on pretty early. I suggest keeping track of your trip and dividing that by how many gallons you put into the car. My MPG reading on my dash tells me 19 when i'm really getting about 20-21

Re: Poor MPG
i did fill it up when the warning light came on and it beeped at me and it held about 13 gallons when I filled it up. cost about 50.00 so I am pretty sure it was low that and the needle was on e as well.

Re: Poor MPG
I was averageing 18mpg for months, I changed my 2 upstream o2 sensors a few days ago (not an easy task at all) , and now im back up to 25mpg, which is still low becasue I really need an alignment. I didnt have a cel, just 98,000miles on them. Car runs like new now.
