Alarm plastic pin???

I'm hoping this is the right section for me to post this... Couple of weeks ago, i was replacing the camshaft pos sensor and i accidently hit my hand on the little black plastic pin looking thing which i don't know the name of, although i'm hoping someone here knows...

Here is a picture:

The spring is still there just the other long piece jumped off and got lost...

So in conclusion, i lost this piece and would like to know it's name to try and search for a replacement.
Or if someone here has a spare one let me know, that be perfect.

Re: Alarm plastic pin???

the pin is not replaceable as I said in pm's, you have to replace the whole sensor [mostly because its suppose to be sealed]. also note the hood is the opposite of all the other door/hatch sensors in that its a closed loop to indicate the hood is closed, rather than an open circuit. So you can simply short circuit that sensor to eliminate it.

Re: Alarm plastic pin???

Thanks for the reply. Well i manage to get that fixed just a minute ago, a little guetto but it works. Now... i had a nother question, i don't know if all the cougars are like that but the range signal for the keyless entry remote is very short on mine... probably i would say about 15 feet is the limit of where the remote stops giving the car a signal. But most people i know that have other cars with keyless entry, can do it from probably 40 or 50 feet away...

Is there like a sensor that would need replacement for this type of thing? the remote has new battery, and even 2 years ago when i got the car, it had the same 'PROBLEM'. If is considered a problem that is...

Any suggestions?

Re: Alarm plastic pin???

Mine doesn't have very good range - never did. I'd say it's more than 15 feet, but it's nowhere near the range that my Impala has (the Impala's will work from incredibly long distances).

Re: Alarm plastic pin???

well you are dealing with 9 year old electronics... I'd imagine their output dims over time [like a light bulb?]. I can tell you where the "antenna" is for the alarm, but I dont think it will help you any.

Re: Alarm plastic pin???

Hold the remote near your chin or your temple(side of head not church) and you should double your range...

Re: Alarm plastic pin???

Benson, you jest but seriously we've had this discussion in the past, and something in either regards to a head as an antenna or the height of the FOB does affect its range..
Just can't figure it out.
