I'm ruined
I loved my 2000 Cougar at first, it was pretty, really fun to drive. I loved it. Till I spun a bearing and had to pay a rediculas amount of money to have the engine replaced with 12 month/12,000 mile warrenty. Well 11 months and 18,000 miles later... It has spun a bearing... I didn't have the money for the first engine to begin with. I can not express how much I do not have the money for another. I'm lookin at a brief future where I am paying for a car I can't use. I'm not gonna have any money for school now, I'm not even gonna have reliable transportation. Any advice on how I can try and salvage anything from my current misserable situation right now?

Re: I'm ruined
Find a less expensive place to replace the engine?
How did the bearings spin? There's a flaw in the oil pans from early Cougars that allow the oil sump to be starved if you go around a right turn very quickly. One would hope that the second engine had the updated oil pan though...

Who's doing your oil changes, and are they adding enough oil?
Maybe a stupid question, but I have to ask - you ARE having the oil changed, right?

Re: I'm ruined
I didn't know that about the oil pan. I have a 1st gen 99 2.5 mtx. was the problem with the 4 or 6 cylinder model? Crap, now I have to get a new oil pan. i love right hand donuts.

Re: I'm ruined
That's interesting though, there is this hard right on my road that I use to always love speeding around and everytime it would reach the 3 month mark the oil light would blink in a single instant. It actually took me awhile to figure out wich light it was cause I'd understandably be keeping my eye on the road during the turn and would see a red blink out of the corner of my eye. But it would disapear before I could glance down fast enough to see it. Had to use a chart that showed all the dash lights while active to find out which one it was. Once I realised it was the oil light, I quickly realised it would only happen when every 3 months so I chalked it up to the detiriorated oil quality and guessed however the oil senser was rigged up just caused it to activate when the oil displaced itself during the sharp turn.
