Re: I'm ruined

In the kids defense, it was a design flaw hence the revision on newer pans. Almost all the cars this engine is in wouldn't see the spirited driving we put ours through. So it just becomes more apparent in the Cougars and probably Contours.

Like it was stated, putting in a full 6qts of oil usually helps prevent this in most cases. I never experienced so much as a flicker in a hard corner on my car. And it is one of the rarer problems posted on this board.

Good luck on your decision. These engines should be a dime a dozen since they were put in almost everything.

Re: I'm ruined

That's a little melodramatic. You blame the car even though you admitted ignoring the oil pressure light. Did you even think to look in the manual to see what that light indicated?

Re: I'm ruined

Well, as I said, the first couple of times the light flickerd, it was so brief I wasn't even really sure anything had actually flickerd at all. Chalked it up to sun spots in the eye from the sun. That's the kind of sufficiant warning I get? If the preassure was so poor that it was letting metal grind, it should have stayed on for more than just two tenths of a second. It's not like I was driving around with the light blatantly shinning in all it's faulty glory. Again, also, as I said, I was unaware of the defect, it is very reasonable to believe that the simple gravitational force caused by the movement of the vehicle would displace the oil briefly enough, and I mean briefly, to trigger the preasure sensor. This isn't a few hudred dollars we're talkin about here, this is several thousands of dollars, and I'm a broke student. At an economic stand point, this is a vehicle I have purchased and has lasted me two years after wich it's resale value has now plumitted over 90% in that time. Should I not be infuriated?

90 percent? Ok, now you're definitely being melodramatic.

Patient: Doctor, it hurts when I do this...
Doctor: Don't do that then....

If you dislike the car so much put it up for sale, maybe somebody will buy it and drop in a 3L.

Re: I'm ruined

Ok. This is the problems section of NECO for your cougar. The problem has been stated and answer given. If you have anything else to add please choose another section that will fit the bill.

Not much to it. Spun bearing? Replace engine. Information was given as to how to prevent the issue from happening again in the future should you decide to keep the car.

Sorry to hear and good luck.
