Re: I'm ruined

Uh no. That light was telling you that you had low oil pressure.

So then if you wanna own this car you have to never take right turns at a more than moderate to slow speed?

Re: I'm ruined

It's not the speed, it's the revs. You need to keep the RPM's down on long right turns, unless you upgrade your oil pan.

Very rare case you got there.

Re: I'm ruined

Rare that it happend or rare that it happend twice? I mean I was just about to forgive this car for what it did to me, and right as I forgave it, it did it again. I mean when I say it flashed instantly I mean, instant. The first time I thought my eyes were wrong cause it was just one blink. Then 3 months later it happend again so I'm like, ok yeah there was something there, but it's close to the battery light so I thought, maybe it was the battery connection comming lose from the forceful movement of the car. Then finally I saw it and watched it blink and recognized it as the oil light. Changed my oil right after, once again, the light never flashed again. Then like a few weeks later I hear it... *knock knock knock knock knock* And I'm like, Oh my god no freakin way... Cause there is nothing else in it that makes that noise..So I try to pull it in somewhere I can keep it and *BAM*, it busted.

Re: I'm ruined

No, you replace the oil pan with the updated version for the most security, or you CHECK THE OIL when the oil light flashes at you.

Re: I'm ruined

I didn't know about the oil pan. I checked it, I drained it, I refilled it, and then I checked it again. It shouldn't cost me $6k just to learn the oil pan was poorly designed.

Well, it's quite rare that it happened at all; even moreso that it happened twice. But you apparently have the PERFECT STORM of commutes, and combined with your particular style of driving, that sealed the deal.

Man, that's rough; sorry to hear about your trouble. On the plus side - now you know how to fix the problem

Re: I'm ruined

Would that I could but I'm afraid this second act of indescretion is just too unforgivable in an automobile. To put in a new engine now would still cost more than the amount of money I'd get for it if I sold it with the new engine.

I'm into cars as a driver, I love to drive and I'm really good at it. The only reason I know anything about how an engine works is cause I wanted to better understand what is happening inside when I make it move and turn and accellerate. My specialty in my style is acellerating in and out of turns and I unfortunetly chose a car that that spells certain doom for. I just liked it cause no matter how many times I had to shill out $500 bucks here and there on every little part that broke down on ford's little um...triumph here...it was one of the funnest cars I had ever driven and it just felt good making it move. But this is too much and not worth the amount of pleasure it gave, not at all. I'm still in depth from this vehicle, and now I am paying for a car I can't use. Unforgiveable.

Re: I'm ruined

In the kids defense, it was a design flaw hence the revision on newer pans. Almost all the cars this engine is in wouldn't see the spirited driving we put ours through. So it just becomes more apparent in the Cougars and probably Contours.

Like it was stated, putting in a full 6qts of oil usually helps prevent this in most cases. I never experienced so much as a flicker in a hard corner on my car. And it is one of the rarer problems posted on this board.

Good luck on your decision. These engines should be a dime a dozen since they were put in almost everything.
