Confused Heater Coolant Hoses

Hey all, My water pump has developed that noisy bearing sound and I'm going to replace it. While I'm at it, I'm going to replace the thermostat, and Upper/ Lower Radiator hoses. I'm also interested in replacing the heater hoses based on other forum postings.

Can I buy hose and cut to fit? If so, what size and length do I need?

This is my only car so, I'm loathe to start tearing it down to figure out the size and then put things back together before heading out to the store.

Re: Heater Coolant Hoses

Just a bump for the day.

I'm really hoping somebody who has done it might be able to point me in the right direction.

Re: Heater Coolant Hoses

what would the purpose of cutting and replacing the hoses be?

I cant think of any practical reason you would do that.... and NO you cant simply cut the hoses and go to NAPA and buy a roll of hose and just drop it in... have you even looked at the coolant hoses???

Re: Heater Coolant Hoses

My apologies if I sounded ignorant.

Thanks for the answer.

If you're wondering why I asked, read on:

Here's the deal: I've been a member since the Fastcougar days, and I've used this website mostly as a reference (99.9% of the time, questions I had have already been answered (reason for the low post count).

Now, I've never done any serious work in the engine bay-I've never had to (knocks on wood). The water pump failure is my first foray into the arena. I'd read in other (2004) posts about how hoses should be replaced every five years or so for good measure and, I've not yet done it (my hoses have been in good health).
Now, I'm getting ready to replace the water pump and I figured that I'd replace the hoses since I gotta drain the coolant anyways. I've already ordered my upper and lower radiator hoses and now I'm trying to find out more info about the heater hoses. I asked here because Autozone told me they sell heater hose by the foot and I just need to know the diameter and length I need.
Now, this is my weak area. In order for me to get this information, I would at least need to remove two things from the car the water pump splash cover and the battery. Look at the hoses, take notes. Put it back together. drive to autozone, pick up the hose and come on back. I can see some of the hoses but, have I looked at and routed every hose, no.

So, I'm just trying to find out all the information I can before I start taking any wrenches to the car.

Thanks again.
