alternator gone bad?
i was sitting at a stoplight and smelled something that almost smelled like a clutch (my cars a atx) , i thought it was the car in front of me or the one in front of him but when i got to mcdonalds for a coffee i realized there was smoke coming from the hood
so i quickly jumped out and looked the smoke was coming from the alternator area.im guessing maybe the alternator? but the cel didnt show, then later the battery light came on for a minute then went back off? any help would greatly be appreciated! |

Re: alternator gone bad?
It's not often that our alts go up in smoke.
My first thought would be that the belt got stuck somehow, possibly due to a bearing (in the alt or another accessory) going bad.
