Re: 2.5 Alternator Replacement

These are a pain, but it can be done. Try searching the how to section. You will see a lot of people who say you need to drop the y-pipe to get it done. It can be done with out doing this. I have done 2 w/o doing that. You will need to remove the passenger side tire and some of the steering to get it out through that side. Getting the bolts out is the fun part. The bottom two are the easiest the top you better have a rubber arm and a case a beer to drink!! Chances are you will get good at it because it will most likely happen again....in any case definitely check the how to section...and good luck...be ready to drop some f-bombs!

Find a friend with small hands, and have them place the deep-well socket on that top bolt FROM THE OUTSIDE (reaching in from the fenderwell). Then feed a few extensions with a swivel joint up through the bottom, and snap it onto the socket, then turn!

Re: 2.5 Alternator Replacement

I went in from the engine bay with a stubby and a rubber...mallet. That was to break it loose(the top bolt). The my stubby did the rest.

Re: 2.5 Alternator Replacement

Small hands are a bonus, we tried using several extensions from the drivers side, and got on it, but had a hard time getting the torgue needed to turn it, we did get it loose, then I jammed my arm in at an angle I didn't know I could get it in there at. I was able to turn it enough till it came out. Just be patient and it will come out. Trust me it goes back in a little better!............getting your arm in there is the fun part!
