How many miles on on your car anyways?
it obviously is not.... or it WOULD have been brought up earlier than last week, and I have 100,325 miles without a single bit of sag. and to play the senority card, b3nn3tt and I both have been around here (never noticed we joined the same month ) for 61 months longer than you to have spotted any issues brought up.

if you search for either "door sag" or "door sagging", there are only a handful of threads with most not taking of the actual door sagging, but side skirts, headliners, paint, etc.. and of those actually related, 1/2 the posts are from you.

Re: Mercury Cougar + Problems?

The only car that has had door sag, is owned by a guy that cut the roof off to make a targa top

I've been here even LONGER than Goldie and Bennett, ** and I've never seen it come up in a discussion or known anyone EVER having that problem.

Re: Mercury Cougar + Problems?

Mine's got door sag. 133,000 miles though. It's not horrific (door still latches good, window doesn't leak air) but it is noticeable. Gonna pop new pins (or shims) in it later this summer.

Re: Mercury Cougar + Problems?

Door sag is an easy fix, theres a how to on it. Probably won't always happen, but it isn't a serious issue. I'm just looking for things in relation to the transmission + engine in relation to problems. Easy fixes are nothing...the expensive fixes, and how often they occur, are something else.

Because you've been here longer, that makes you smarter? Wow...

Just because a door sagg problem hasn't happened to you does not mean it's not common. Some people are lucky... Others not... My bushings went and my car only has 81,000 miles...

If you check how many people noted having a door sag problem you would notice that quite a "handful" of people claimed they have this problem... Ouch. It burns...

It actually is pretty common on cars with long doors... Preferably coupes... Why else would they sell bushings if it was not?

Cars with longer doors equals more wieght... The bushings and hinges have to support more wieght... This equals more wear... It can be proven.

How do you know most people haven't fixed their doors already?

Do you know how simple the repair is? It's pretty simple, so this is why no one posts about it...

What do you think people are giong to post more about? A transmission problem or a sagging door? An engine problem or a saggin door? What worries people more... A problem that stops their car from running, or a problem that just becomes annoying?

Plus if you couldn't tell under my avatar I live in the northeast... Salt, snow, rust and corrosion are my friends...

But I'm not here to argue with you if it's common or not... I think it's common. If you don't agree, that's your problem. I've expressed my reasoning... Not with how long I've been here, but with actual facts...

Re: Mercury Cougar + Problems?

SpoCom2nr - I read every post in Problems and have for quite some time. This is the very first thread I've seen about it. A dozen people having the problem does not make it a "common problem". And I didn't see anywhere where Goldie claimed she's smarter than you - she simply said she's been around here for years and like the rest of us hasn't seen the issue come up previously.

Now, back on topic everyone... More posts about whether this is a common problem will be deleted, so don't even bother posting them.

So...saw the cougar

I saw the cougar I plan on buying. Besides the fact that its dirty, it seems like it is in decent condition. The paint could use a little bit of work as there are a few scratches and scuffs. My biggest pet peeve is the car is missing the chip so that you can adjust the seat. Anyone know where I can find this chip, he claims its roughly $35 and he showed me whee to install it. The car handles decently and the brakes seem a little slow in terms of reaction (when i'm slowly putting it down, not slamming it), but this is probably because i'm used to my 02 neon's brakes.

So, anyone know where I can get this chip? and is it possible to buy a small canister of car paint to get rid of the scuffs and scratches on the car.

Re: Mercury Cougar + Problems?

Either a junkyard or call BillJ (teamford on here)...or really any dealer should be able to get one for you. Or, go to the For Sale forums and find someone parting a car that would sell it to you.

Note that the power seat changed at least once during the '99 model year - make sure the board you're getting is the right one for your seat (I have no idea whether they changed). IIRC, early '99s had fewer adjustment options than the later ones - mine (a late '99) does:

--Forward/backwards
--Up/down
--Bolster in/out
--Back angle

For the paint, I got some from Paintscratch.com for both of my cars and have been very happy with it. There are others, too.
