Shifting Issue
First of all I would just like to say thanks for all the help I've gotten from this forum. I joined about a month ago and have been saved a few times already with info I found here. This is my first time posting though.
Anyway, I have a 2000 cougar, 2.5 MTX. About two weeks ago the clutch master cylinder went while I was driving and I got a pretty good grind when I tried to shift into first gear. I've had the master cylinder replaced by the dealer and they bled the clutch twice but now I'm still getting a little bit of grinding when I shift into first. If I clutch in shift into second and then into first it doesn't grind at all but only if I am stopped completely. Double clutching doesn't help and shifting in other gears doesn't seem as smooth as it used to be. The dealer told me they took a look at the clutch and it looked good. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Ryan |

Re: Shifting Issue
How did they look at the clutch?

Re: Shifting Issue
They told me the tech looked in through some port and didn't see any dust or anything that would make it seem like it needed to be replaced. This is the first manual transmission I've ever owned so I'm not too familiar with them.

Re: Shifting Issue
I'm suspicious of their clutch-examination method but I really don't have enough experience to say one way or the other.
But it's going to be the clutch itself or the slave cylinder, probably (unless it wasn't bled correctly, but one would hope they did that).

Re: Shifting Issue
Is there any chance i could have messed something up in the transmission itself? I'm hoping not... Or could I have bent or broken something on the shifter linkage? Thanks for your input by the way.

Re: Shifting Issue
I suppose the synchros or whatever could be out of it, but I am not an expert on transmissions.
