Re: Help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my transmission today. It came off of another cougar same color and everything. I also swiped the seats too for 25.00. But I ended paying 317.00 for the tranny with 73,000 miles. It is getting started on today. I ended up not taking to the original guy that was gonna do it. I went to his shop and just didn't feel confident in his skills plus he had tools and all other kinds of miscellanious items scattered all over the floor you couldn't even walk in there. SO i called another friend of mine that is normally very busy and he said he would do it for me for 350.00 + 20.00 for new seals. so I think I am getting a good deal. less than 700.00 to get it rolling again. said I should have it back by sunday.

Re: Help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

That seems too cheap to me, but I'm used to sky-high labor rates around here. Good luck.

Re: Help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got the tranny from Warford Auto they specialize in Ford lincoln and mercury. But here is the funny thing. I went to pick the car up today to take it to the shop and start ripping it apart. I knew I only had 1st and reverse when I dropped it got towed to the place that had it. I get in and she shifts perfect. A little bang on 2nd but other than that no problems. I talked to my mechanic and he told me that it sounds electrical. So he hooked it up and it is sowing like 6 codes on the tranny. Something about gear 2 gear 3 and gear 4. And torque converter switched to off. Those are the only ones I can remember. I also have a MAF code, A IMRC, and two O2 but I knew about those. But he said before we rip the tranny completley out since we have to take the battery box, the fans, the intake , and a few other things off the top to get the old out. He is gonna take the pan off the before we drop it and see if it has any clutch material in it. The fluid is bright red and no burnt smell.

So he says that he thinks is it all electrical because a transmission going out doesn't just fix itsel and Thinks the soleniod packs are bad and harnesss is rubbing. He is gonna take the ones out of the new tranny and put them in the old and see if that fixes everything. I hope so cause then it is half the labor price and I have a back up tranny just in case.

Re: Help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also I read a past a few nights ago and now I can't find it I have searched almost every category and no luck. Someone posted there were updated VSS's for the 99 ATX where do I get one cause while it is in the air I am gonna go ahead and change that. My mechanic said it would be the best. Autozone is showing one for 36.00 but it doesn't look like the one I need.

Re: Help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

well I got the cougar back last night and it drove perfect.......... For about 30 miles back to my house and around town. It is still driving 100% better than it was and I put some trans x in it to try and help the valves. But I am still probably going to have to rebuild in the upcoming months. The transmission I got from memphis was junk. He opened the pan and there was all kinds of material in it. When he opened my pan he said it looked almost new. My fluid was bright red and not clutch material in the pan. he said with it shifting through all the gears perfect it could be a hit or miss but to change my speed sensor cause 2nd is the only gear I am having problems with. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If I let it continue to climb on the RPM's it will get to about 4000 and then slam into 2nd. this sounds alot like the 1 2 bang problem Aircougar talked about.
