Sunroof/Moonroof...or whatever...

Yeah...the sunroof/moonroof how ever you want to call it, isnt closing all the way. I tried searching both moon and sunroof, but I didnt get the results I wanted, so im sorry if there was a previous thread about it.

So I finally got it today, and the second thing I tried out was the sun/moonroof...and it didnt close all the way, NOR open all the way. Now I've read something about the sun/moonroof not working...and I was wondering is it the "sensor" that has gone wrong or maybe the motor? Honestly I dont think its the motor cause, if the motor was broken it wouldnt have even opened half-way (which it did in my predicament). So I was hoping someone here could give me their opinion, or tell me what to do n such.

Thank You

Well, there isnt a sensor that would stop it from closing all the way. Does it open back up? If so, check your tracks for anything blocking it from closing. What I think, is that something is broken causing it not to slide down and closing all the way.

Do you think it could be the motor?

Well, if you can hear the motor working, then its not. Also, does it go up still? If it still works but doesnt go down all the way, then something in the track is causing it not to go down all the way.

I honestly dont know how to explain it...like it wont open all the way (stops in the middle) and doesnt close all the way (has 1in gap)

but it doesnt matter now...I returned it, cause the title was messed up...

Re: Sunroof/Moonroof...or whatever...

Well guys I was wandering if I could join the "sunroof not working club." I would like a fulltime membership Mine doesn't work since around 11AM this morning.

Mine just stopped working today... It also happens to be one of the hottest days in a while... My car is a 2001 Mercury Cougar 2.5L ATX Blah Blah Blah...

I went to go open it by pushing the button and it started to open but then stopped... I can't close it or open it anymore... It's stuck open now...

I checked the fuse... Fuse is good.

I took the sunroof panel off and I can't see anything broke...

Where do these things normally break???

Mine doesn't look broken... Does anyone have a picture of a broken one???

As many times as this has been covered, I have trouble believing you couldn't have found anything.

Your plastic tracks are most likely broken. Get the thing shut and disconnect the switch. The fix would be close to a thousand dollars for a new metal track assembly from a later model.

Yeah. I'm almost sure this is an electrical issue. I'd like to think the motor burnt out, but I have no evidence to back this up...

The tracks don't look broken... Plus don't all 01's and up have metal ones??? When I did get the car there were little pieces in it... But I cleaned them out and the sunroof worked many times after...

If I do get it fixed, I'm taking it to the dealership I work at... I think I can get a discount on labor etc...

If I do, maybe I'll do a how-to for you guys.

If that's such a big deal, post some links instead of whining...

Plus my plastic tracks aren't broke... And I thought the 01's and newer had metal tracks...
