Car won't start

I went to come home from work the other day and when I went to start the car, it cranked fine but wouldn't fire. I have done the obvious (what I didn't do last time I had a problem) and checked all the grounds and electrical connections, everything is tight and proper. No CEL of any kind (idk if the car has to 'run' to throw a CEL or not).

I'm not sure if/when the fuel filter has been replaced, so thats a possibility, as well as the fuel pump. It could also be the coilpack I guess. The only thing I'm not sure about is exactly how to troubleshoot where the problem is. If anyone can give any tips, it would be greatly appreciated.

If it's not giving spark, i'd check the coil pack. You can get an Accel Performance Coil Pack, jus check around.

Yes, all electrical is working 100% fine, and starter is cranking as normal. Just no "fire".

Ahh well that could be anything from the coil pack to the PATS key. Check the ground to the coil pack. If you have a spare key try it, theres a chance your main key got blanked or corrupted. Theres a few other things that it could be but im tired and forgetting them all.

Re: Car won't start

The PATS light on the dash is functioning normally, not blinking or anything when I try to start it. I have no spare key, at least I won't for another two weeks when I finally make my last car payment.

Is there some sort of procedure to see if I'm getting fuel? My grandpa is asking about the fuel filter, which is in the tank with the pump, right?

Re: Car won't start

The fuel filter is underneath the passenger side of the car just forward of the rear wheel Bobby.

Re: Car won't start

Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key on?

If you aren't sure, pull off the fuel line and have someone crank the car for a second. If gas sprays everywhere (and it will spray everywhere), your pump is fine.

To check spark, pull out a spark plug and re-connect it the boot. Set it out in the open somewhere, and have someone crank the car while you watch it for a second. If you see the spark in the plug, you're iginition is fine.

Other than that, I don't really have any troubleshooting advice.

Re: Car won't start

OK, this car has PMS or something...

I just went out to check to see if I hear the fuel pump kicking on, it did, so I tried to start it. Fired right up. I haven't touched ANYTHING, and now it starts right up. I have tried for about 5 days in a row to try to start it, to no avail. Now it starts up just fine.

Maybe it just wanted to take a 5 day weekend?
