    RE:Sweet... not!

I just rolled over 121k on monday (it has 75k when I purchased it 3yrs ago Feb 27). It was on its way to get an alignment cause after I got it back from getting the transmission fixed the alignment was off.
The real kicker is I still owe 4500. I only drive it from Clinton, Oh to Akron to Canton to Clinton, 6 days a week.
(210 a week and that doesnt include the deliveries I make for work on occation).

d@mn, that sucks Sarah So sorry to hear that DK is being a PITA.

Sounds like she was abused by her prior owner to me there's no way an axle should break on an ATX V6 Cougar, even with 120K+ miles.

I hope things work out for you.

    RE:Sweet... not!

I really wanna feel bad buuuuuut...I do remember you posting about a problem that was CV joint related and we (at least I know I did) posted info on where to get the parts, how much they were, and what was involved in replacing them. This is something that coulda been done before your car was disabled- and it was quite a while ago. Good news is that we have a lil better idea now of just how long a bad halfshaft might last till it totally gets destroyed. Sorry Sare. Like I said before, Autozone carries our halfshafts (my local autozone even had one in stock that day) and they are a couple hundred at most...actually I think after the core charge it was only a like $130 or something like that. Took Brian's brother bout 30 minutes maybe to replace it...maybe less. Good luck.

    RE:Sweet... not!

I replaced the CV joint in August 04', actually it was cheaper to replace my front axel, which I did. I also replaced both wheel bearings, calipers and rotors since then. So, Sled, dont give me this I told you so attitude. My transmission was on its way out the door since last year, but I was being to stubborn and cheap to replace a "working" one and had decided not to do anything about it until Drive or Reverse didnt work anymore. I also overhauled this car last year too.

I'm fixing the cougar again because I truthfully cant afford to do anything else with it or get rid of it without at least breaking even. I know to you all it seems like all I do is itch itch itch, but I have never in my life time seen such a piece of machinary fail in such a short time. The vechicles that my parent and my grandparent bought, some even second hand, have out lasted the cougar by years, and they have 10-15 yrs on my car. I have never taken this car on to a track in the time I have had it. I cant vouch for the previous owner(s) but I should of known when I bought it of a ricer lot (aka: Honda). Theres a lot of miles on my car because of work, and I am not shy to say that yes, I purchased a high mileage car. Its something to learn from.

I'll just take my dads advice from yesterday, You still have 50years of this left, just take it one step at a time.

So just watch the boards here cause I might have a body kit to sell.

    RE:Sweet... not!

My bad I guess. What is the warranty on the driveshaft? I dont see how you could break one in six months so it must either be a defect or was installed wrong. If you got it at autozone I think they have a lifetime warranty on most stuff. Did it snap at the cv joint or did the actual shaft snap? A small tear in one of the boots either from the factory or during install is all it would take for a CV to fail again. If the solid shaft broke then it is a serious defect in the metal. Hope you kept the receipts. Good luck.
