my cougar sucks.. its broken.. again.....so i was on my way up north and then the radio kept shuting off.. and then turning back on.. then when i got up north.. one of the times i went to start it it didnt start.. we jiggled some plugs. connected to the starter then it started but that coulda just been luck.. cuz it worked the rest of the weekend and the radio didnt shut off or whatever all the way home...its not the starter cuz its new. i just fixed it.. and so yeah.. i hate it!! i want it to be fixed!!!

Radio problem is most likely your anti-theft faceplate. I had mine come loose a few times and didn't realize it. Make sure it's securely fastened (the 2-3-4-5 preset buttons are your anti-theft faceplate)

2-3-4-5 buttons?? like on the radio? So would this anti-theft faceplate that you are talking about also be related to my car not starting randomly??

Actually, this sounds like exactly what happened to me.

The radio would shut off and come back on its own, then a while longer (a week or so) the lights dimmed at night, then it wouldn't start sometimes, then WHAM, no more alternator. Replaced the alt, and she's all better, no more radio flipin out, lights dimming, and now I have a nice howl from under the hood from the new Gatorback... =) (I swear, the belt has scared more ppl away then the intake sucking sound...)

Steph, how many miles you got on your cougar? and have you changed your alternator yet?

I'm not really convinced that milage has anything to do with it. I've seen people complain that they have replaced theirs after 2k miles, yet I had the original alt until over 100k (and I drive my car hard).

On top of that, I had my alt tested and it showed it was ok, it was only under load that it flubbed up on me.

I got now almost 84K on it.. ive put 35000 since i got it at like the end of july.. but thats all highway.. if it really matters.. im not sure if the alt has been changed or what. My step dads gunna go to the dealer or something and have the vin ran to see if anything or whats been done .. but i dunno... he didnt have time to look at it this weekend.. so we'll see next weekend... hopefully its nothing.. but it has to be..thats my luck,.. the radio and everything worked fine this weekend.. and i drove it around quite a bit this weekend.. but i dunno.. crossing my fingers!!! i just want it to be nothing.. and for it to stop breaking!!!!

Well its not all my fault my parents wanted to take it all the way to the U.P. the first weekend i had it.. just that trip put 1000 miles on it.. and i also live 2 hrs away from home.. and have had to go home every weekend besides the weekend that i went up north and this crap all happened.. but even then it was also 2hrs...but other then that its ben parked.. sorta..i like to drive it.. its not my fault.. i jsut wish it would stop braking...
