Well we already know what the problem is... heat, plain and simple. The only thing short of ducting air to the alt. would maybe be installing better (aircraft grade) bearings in the housing to reduce frictional heat. MAYBE... that will help, but I am doubtful

This is true the damn bastard is in about the worst spot ever. I am just interested to see what kind of power curve this thing would produce for em on the test machines here.

Right now when I drive if I break about 2200 rpm the light goes on. So that is about 60 in fifth gear. Over all I have not noticed any driveablity issues it still goes fine even if I go way beyond the 2200. On the highway I have just been doing a get above speed then let it coast to below speed and contiure doign that to keep things alive for the past few days.

Thats not a positive thing. I always thought I was never going to have the alternator problem everyone else has but now it is twice in a year. Maybe I will fashion up some aluminum ducting to get cool air to the alternator in the spring.

Mine failed 2 years ago. The housing cracked. Most likely from the heat of the engine and the cold water splashing on it.

I rememebr those pictures. Well I guess I can just be happy that the thing is dying now and not the middle of winter again and leaving me on the side of 275 or 696 in the cold waiting for a tow truck.
