Lightbulb Cold as hell in minnesota!!!

So I let someone borrow my 99 cougar and it was leaking anit freeze and they still drove it. What ended up happing is they over heated it and now it will not start... idk what I should do. Should I just get the head changed or should I through a different motor into it?

Make sure you know what the problem is before you throw in the towel. Sounds like a blown head gasket or cracked head, but you never can tell. A compression test would tell for sure.

If it IS a cylinder head, it's probably simpler to replace the engine entirely, and probably not much more expensive. R&R a cylinder head on the twin-cam engine like this one is a nasty job, and people often pull the engine entirely in order to get the space to do it.

So i clicked into this thread, wondering just how cold is "cold as hell in Minnesota"....and found nothing relating to temperatures, unless you count the over heating engine.

Anyways, I agree with Bennett: Figure out the problem, figure out the possible cures, then make a decision.

It was ~-25F here last week.

gustavoperez507: We aren't too far from you so if you do decide to go with a new motor check our pricing out for 3L motors. You might end up paying close to our 3L install price to fix your issue. Otherwise, we could install a stock motor cheaper than almost any shop would charge you. If you don't know what to do you could have the car towed to us and we can tell you what would be the cheapest route to get it up and running.

I've been to a few MSC meets. I'll try to get out to a few this year.

    Gustavo,

What did you end up doing with your car? Was the engine shot?
