My Alignment Numbers

It's slow at work right now and I couldn't force myself to do any homework..

Toe readings before the alignment..

Front Right: .15

Front Left: .33

Acceptable Range: -.09 to .09

Front: .49

Acceptable Range: -.17 to .17

Rear Right: .21

Rear Left: .66

Acceptable Range: .06 to .26

Rear: .87

Acceptable Range: .12 to .52

I Knew it was driving funny!

So now that I've gotten it aligned and I've got the snow tires on, I've noticed that my steering wheel vibrates. It's gets really bad up around 60-70mph. What does that mean? Does that have something to do with the balance of the tires?

Re: My Alignment Numbers

Yes...most likely your wheels just need to be balanced. It could be other problems as well, but I'd bet that's it.

Well usually they balance the tires first to be sure that isnt a major cause of an alignment issue. I know I did when I did the alignments on the hunter rack at school. It could be a lot of stuff most likely they do need to be balanced and the place you got it at was lazy and just did toe and go on your car. It would be hard to know unless the suspension components were inspected. How many miles are on that chassis again?

Re: My Alignment Numbers

There is only toe adjustment on our cars, which is why people have camber issues they can't correct when they have lowering springs. There are camber plates out there that adjust the angle of the strut at the top to change camber but they don't seem to work very well. I had a set and ditched them after I kept burning up the inside of my tires. I replaced my control arms in hopes of it helping and so far things are fine.

Re: My Alignment Numbers

My alignment numbers are even worse than those When I had it up on the hoist I actually noticed where part of the subframe had been bent by the previous owner. Picking a straight one up on Saturday if all goes well.

So they were able to get your numbers in spec? Like Blackcoog said we can really only get minor adjustments on these cars

In the specified range? Yeah, they got them all within the right range. They showed camber readings as well, and either they were just for show or they were all fine. So..should they have checked the balance when they did the alignment? And right now I'm pretty sure one of the tires is leaking; will that affect the balance?

Yea sure of the one tire. if its a leak do not try and put any kind of tire stop leak in it. Just buy a new set of two tires or have them plug it. If anything I still have those tires/rims :P
