So I need better air flow in this case. It's a Dell Vostro 460. i5 quad core, 12gb ram, 450 psu, and a GTX 460.
No way to really add a front fan. I was thinking of adding an angled plate, in front of the side fan, to bank the air towards the back.

What is overheating? Everything? If it's the CPU you could get a nice CPU cooler. I have a coolermaster V8 cooler. At the time (2009) it was one of the best ones for my i7 920 CPU. Yes it looks ridiculous but it seems to do the job. You might have to cut a hole in the case...
I found this cooler online for your vid card:
Gelid Icy Vision Five Heatpipe Universal VGA Cooler Rev 2. (Up to HD6900 Series / GTX 580 Series) - FrozenCPU.com
If you just want to move air in and out of the case then look into some nicer fans that can push more air. Figure out what size fans you have now. Look up there specs and then find a beefy replacement that can push a lot more air.

I just read this.......... "You have to use the OEM fan or it will halt on system fan failure." This cannot be correct. It's just a fan for crying out loud, lol.

Are you looking to spend any money? It looks like that will all swap into a new case, no problem. Here is the case I plan on using on my new build. It's basically my current case, with a few upgrades. The separated chambers not only keep everything cool, but also quiet, which is a big deal for me.

Cutting a hole in the top and adding a fan will surely help. We would do this back in the day before they sold cases with the feature. It really helped bring down overall temps. You can even keep the top fan on low, since heat tends to drift upwards anyway.
Otherwise, Blackcoog pretty much covered it. Go with a higher cfm fan and/or an upgrade cpu/gpu heatsink/fan. If you know your current temps it will help you make a comparison later. Just remember higher cfm fans are typically noisier.
On the oem fan, perhaps they use a modified power plug on the motherboard so you can't use an aftermarket one? I'm not sure. I can only assume it would cause an error if it saw that he cpu fan was unplugged, but why should it care if it's a different fan. Perhaps it's just a cover their ass kind of thing.

Where did you read about it being an issue with a non-stock fan?
If you want a stupid heavy case this is what I got. I could fit a small child in there:
COSMOS
I wish I went with something smaller/lighter but everything in there stays nice and cool.![]()
I would love a new case but I have a timing belt to do on the subie and still saving to paint the cobra. So I thought a few fans might do the job for now. I was just wondering if that plan was sound. I know you can't just throw fans on and expect it to cool better. You have to create a positive flow.
What I really want is a water block for the GPU![]()
