Canadian airline eliminates life vests to save fuel

Airline removes life vests to lighten planes - CNN.com

How often does a plane crash and you get the chance to need the life vests...but still...

The biggest thing is that they hardly fly over water. Most of the Jazz flights fly solely over land and to be honest, the water they fly over takes 1 minute to get past.

Those flights to Boston and NYC fly over quite a bit of water, for quite a bit of time. Do you recall where TWA 800 ended up?

There's a racial joke about the Utah Jazz in there if you look hard enough.

Re: Canadian airline eliminates life vests to save fuel

I don't recall seeing life vests being included in the safety discussions on airlines in the US that I've traveled on- just the typical "In case of a water landing, your seat cushion can be used as a flotation device".

I guess Canada is just following the trend now?

Re: Canadian airline eliminates life vests to save fuel

What I meant was that the majority of Jazz flights don't fly over that much water. For example, most of their flights from London go to within 3-4 hours of here and never cross water at all. Sure there are flights that cross them, but the majority fly within province, and typically to places like Vancouver or Calgary.

To be honest, I wouldn't give a damn about the seat cushion or a life vest if the plane was headed for a lage body of water...I'd be more worried about making it through impact.
