Stranded!

Yay for roadtrips! A buddy and I are taking a little roadtrip on the way out to NY to drop me off at college. So we had this AWESOME trip planned, IMAX in Chicago, sightsee in DC..... well driving our first night my lights do this wierd pulsing. They'd cut down to like 50% power and and slowy energize back up to full, cut down and slowy energize up. Nothing really happened, but the battery light was flickering rapidly a few hours later. Next morning we get out on the road, all psyched to make a 16 hour trip to DC to make up for lost time.... uh oh, there's the ABS, E-brake, and TC lights! Uh oh, there goes the raido, SRS, speedo, and the rest of the dash. And then the car just DIES.
Took it in to FORD and they said everything tests out ok, but we're having them replace the ALT just in case. So we're now a full day behind schedule and counting; stranded out here in Middleton, WI with a Tarus loaner. I'm gonna kiss my car when I get it back!

Oh, and I gotta be real quiet, I already got the eye twice and a talking to for using my indoor voice in the library.

Yupp, got that one done. They actually tested the battery and alt and they tested fine; so they e-mailed the engineers and they reccomended replacing the alt. Which I'd rather do than getting stranded for real life.

Dont replace the alt. just yet. That's exactly what happened to me but was a special kinda fuse under the coil.

Well we made our way to DC last afternoon. FINALLY something went right. Checked in to our hotel and I swore I wasn't leaving the room till I had to get up for breakfast next morning.
Put a new alt in and it's running nice. They said the battery light wasn't coming on at 5 grand either, so that musta been it. Although, it sems like my Cougar lost its balls...almost feels like the secondaries don't open at 4k. I don't feel that extra burst like before... clueless to what it might be. I'll have to run it a few more times as most was highway driving last night.

Tempting but i gotta be at school in 3 days. Same thing with the meet in MD.
