job searching sucks
there is so many garbage companies on monster and careerbuiler. hopefully my connections come through for me quick. It would be so much easier for me to get a job if I could just go talk to the person who does the hiring, because I know I would get the job that way. sending out a resume and cover letter makes it hard to stand out.

It's all about networking.

+1 x infinity
you're a good and (somewhat ) smart fellow though, tim. you'll get a good job. keep plugging and don't be too proud to seize and opportunity or take an in if one presents itself. the job market sucks big floppy donkey d!ck right now though. we're having a hard time finding jobs for folks here in Pensacola too. plus, i don't know if you read the thread but i laid off two people last week and then my boss got laid off too. ![]() |

Re: job searching sucks
took me 4 months to find a job Tim. Networking was the way I got the job I have now.
Maybe you could put an ad in the paper and be a helper to lil people. You have experience lifting people above your head, then they could there own things out of the freezer. ![]() But seriously, right now its real hard. I just got lucky knowing the right person. Good luck. and monster sucks.

Re: job searching sucks
try craigslist. your not going to find the garbage and headhunters you find on the other site.
last round of job seeking, I had very little luck or response rates from those other sites, craigslist was like a 90% response rate.

Re: job searching sucks
Networking definitely helps a lot.
Pestering works second best. Don't just send your resume in and wait for a response. You gotta follow up. "I sent in my resume, when can we schedule a time to meet and discuss my qualifications" That type of pestering. But I agree about monster and the like. Most of my search hits are staffing firms, not actual firms hiring. And good lord are those recruiters a bunch of friggin vultures. So annoying! Most of them offer me jobs not even related to my field.
