As we near the end of the current Presidential term...

Let us look back fondly on these gems of knowledge.

--George W. Bush, October 4, 2000

“And so, in my State of the, my State of the Union, or State—my speech to the nation, whatever you want to call it, speech to the nation—I asked Americans to give 4,000 years—4,000 hours over the next—the rest of our life—of service to America.”
--Newsweek, April 22, 2002

“I think we agree, the past is over.”

“We need an energy bill that encourages consumption.”
--New Republic, October 7, 2002

“I know something about being a government. And you’ve got a good one.”

“Do you have blacks, too?”
--Speaking to Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, New Republic, June 10, 2002. Condoleezza Rice quickly informed Bush that Brazil probably has more blacks than the United States.

“I was raised in the West. The west of Texas. It’s pretty close to California. In more ways than Washington, D.C., is close to California.”
--Los Angeles Times, April 8, 2000

“There’s no such thing as legacies. At least, there is a legacy, but I’ll never see it.”
--January 31, 2001

“We ought to make the pie higher.”
(now that’s something almost all of us can get behind!)
--South Carolina Republican presidential candidates debate, February 15, 2000 (and people STILL voted for him)

“You teach a child to read and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.”
--February 21, 2001

“’There’s a huge trust. I see it all the time when people come up to me and say, ‘I don’t want you to let me down again.’”
--October 3, 2000

“One year ago today, the time for excuse making has come to an end.”
--January 8, 2003

“There ought to be limits to freedom.”
--Referring to a satirical anti-Bust web site, May 21, 1999

“I would have said yes to abortion if only it was right. I mean, yeah it’s right. Well, no, it’s not right. That’s why I said no to it.”
--February 14, 2000

“Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream.”
--October 18, 2000

“I did denounce it. I de—I denounced it. I denounced interracial dating. I denounced anti-Catholic bigacy…bigotry.”

“That’s a chapter, the last chapter of the 20th, 20th, the 21st century that most of us would rather forget. The last chapter of the 20th century. This is the first chapter of the 21st century.”
--On the Lewinsky scandal, October 24, 2000

“The reason we start a war is to fight a war, win a war, thereby causing no more war!”
--The first 2000 presidential candidates debate (and people STILL voted for him)

AND, OF COURSE, HE HIRED RUMSFELD
WHO CAN EVER FORGET THESE RUMSFELD JEWELS:

“Things will not be necessarily continuous. The fact that they are something other than perfectly continuous ought not to be characterized as a pause. There will be some things that people will see. There will be some things that people won’t see. And life goes on.”
--News Conference (typical response to pointed questions about the conflict in Iraq—otherwise known as “mission accomplished.”)

“As we know, there are known knowns. There are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns. That is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”

“You’re going to be told lots of things. You get told things every day that don’t happen. It doesn’t seem to bother people, they don’t—it’s printed in the press. The world things all these things happen. They never happened. Everyone’s so eager to get the story before in fact the story’s there that the world is constantly being fed things that haven’t happened. All I can tell you is, it hasn’t happened. It’s going to happen.
--February 28, 2003 Department of Defense briefing

Re: As we near the end of the current Presidential term...

all those things would be great and funny and wonderful if he wasn't in a position of such power... the fact he is makes it rather scary!

I guess it gives hope to every American child though... even if you don't do well in school, get a DUI, can't speak the gooder english and fail at all your business dealings - you can still be president! (so long as you're born into an incredibly wealthy family, which, may or may not have ties to Nazis and the Bin Laden family)
