Well, I couldn't find my old post to update from when I received a tentative offer from the FAA to be an Air Traffic Controller for Daytona Beach International Airport's Tower so I figured I'd just start this post. After much careful thought and consideration I ended up declining that position for several reasons, one of them being finances to move down there and live down there considering the lower amount of money air traffic controller's are forced to be paid thanks to the FAA's imposed work rules. Another big reason was that I wasn't too keen on the idea of moving away from my grandparents at the time since they're not getting any younger. So after anxiously waiting for another offer from the time I declined that back in early February, I finally got another offer in the mail last monday. This offer is in Dayton, Ohio at the Dayton Airport Tower. I'm extremely excited to take this. I've completed and submitted all my paperwork so now I'm just waiting on a date to go out to the FAA academy.
The letter came at a perfect time, I've been going through some major issues with a dead end job that was just to pay the bills while I waited for the FAA. It had a crappy schedule that had me working till 4am every night and was throwing my sleep schedule off five ways from sunday. It was putting all kinds of stress in my life and affecting my relationship with both my girlfriend and my family because I was so stressed out from it all the time. The offer couldn't have come at a better time. Dayton is only about 3hrs or so from where my gf and I live now, so it's far enough away that I don't have to deal with my family all the time but close enough that if I want to see them it's not too bad of a drive to see them. My girlfriend has been extremely supportive of my decision to accept the position and is more than happy to move down there with me. My family has been more supportive of this decision than they were of the Florida position, so that helps also. Even though the airport is one level below Daytona Beach's airport, I'll actually be making more money there due to locality pay being higher. I should still be able to make it to Fest also, so this will probably be my last year doing so. It's finally come time for me to take on life as an adult with my career doing what I went to school for. It's kinda nerve wracking but yet exciting at the same time. I just thought I'd share since I never really updated anyone after the whole Daytona Beach situation. So in a few months I'll be starting adult life I guess you could say, .Jeff, *update-i received a phone call from the faa yesterday and selected the date of 07/17/08 to go to the academy out in oklahoma. when i receive my packet of information regarding how long i'll be there and everything i'll update again. i can't wait ![]()

I know you told me already, but I wasn't sure if you actually accepted the position. Congrats! It sounds like this is just a better job offer all around.
