Taking her for a night out is a good gift. Empire State building tends to have a line to get to the top though, doesn't it?
You don't want to bore her (unless she's a cool g/f and doesn't mind waiting in line).
Do a nice dinner too, or maybe just go somewhere for drinks.
Chicks dig fondu and wine places.
And if she likes it enough, you can buy her her own fondu set to make it for home get togethers.

I live right near NYC (a few minutes from you) so here was what I did for my girlfriend. I got a spa treatment gift cert., train tickets, and tickets for Phantom of the Opera, and we spent the day up in NYC. We went ice skating and everything. She went to the spa for a few hours and I walked around NYC and just loafed. At night we went and saw Phantom and then took the train back to Hamilton.

I don't know if it runs through Howell though.

The big suprise was the pearl necklace I gave her at the end of the night

It all depends what type of girl she is...or put everything together (kinda big budget)
If you go to the city:
Everyone loves the wax museum = $29 a person (i can get it for 22 if you want me to help you out) bring your camera and have fun
travel around the city
Wall street, Empire State Building, Churches (too many to list)= mostly all free you just need to pay for Metro card
Dinner and drinks.. depends what you want....ask me what you want to eat and i'll tell you the best place i know ...idk 15/plates to 92/plate (big and great plates)
Fun at night- you could go to a lounge, club, bars and hookah bars etc

In NJ:
Go to board walk have a nice day at the beach maybe a picnic if you want= price of the beach entrance and food
I know this great Italian restaurant in Ridgewood every date i take their I get some "desert" no alcohol but you can bring your own wine
and then back to the beach haha

A GREAT idea for the summer is Seaside.

It's trashy but I love it there. Plus you can go get the best pizza at Marrucas on the boardwalk. Or how about an overnighter at Atlantic City?
