Is this nation wide?!

Copper wire & pipes being stolen. We found out today that a foot of copper leading from our AC unit to the house was clipped. Now we have no AC. Also today my riding instructor had to cancel the lession because her old house got broken into and the copper was stolen, and flooded the house. My work, Whole Foods, had their compressor room broken into and everything was stolen. It cost the company about 50K for everything. A house we were looking at was broken into and yet again the copper was stolen.

Is this happening everywhere or just Columbus? Its difently out of control and something needs to be done!

Re: Is this nation wide?!

We had a local school that got shut down because someone stole the copper pipe that controlled the incoming water, thus flooding the area.

There are a lot of idiots out there...

I've heard of people melting down pennies because the copper they are made of is actually worth more than the currency itself...

Re: Is this nation wide?!

It's happening in Pensacola, FL. A place I used to work at had the A/C unit stolen twice and there are places that have installed security features, such as fences and cameras, to guard their units.

Re: Is this nation wide?!

When I was still working doing real estate investment work here in Detroit area that was a big problem. We would get a call from tenants that over night people were stealign their siding. They would take a piece or two at a time every night and then be gone. This is happening because of the crazy high prices for metals.

yeah, its been like that since 2002 or so... copper worth more than penny...

And people were stealing copper wires when i left the States in 2004. When i sold my clinic, i had the guys take out all the wirings for the X ray. As you can imagine, i had lots of wirings... and the security guard caught a guy trying to steal the spool of copper wirings from my clinic. (bit over 100 lbs.)

This is a federal offense if one is caught, so more power to "those" people I wouldn't risk it.

Re: Is this nation wide?!

I thought it was really ballsy to steal it from my work. It was a closed room with freion running. So they had to know what they were doing. We had to throw out 5K in Chicken alone. They maybe got a grand worth of copper. The store took a 50K loss. It was really terrible.

I thought "new" pennies were filled with nickel, or some other metal to stop people from doing this.

Honestly though, a foot of copper pipe. Is a foot even worth it? What a bunch of assholes.

Seriously! The house sucks without AC and we have to move in a month or so. So we probably won't replace it.
