    I have wood!

Well, its time to start weeding through what is left of my grandfathers wood collection. Unfortunatly his barn burned YEARS ago, where about 90% of the wood was. Most of this was cut 25-40 years ago. The majority of it is black walnut, and some cherry in there somewhere. Most of the large planks are at the bottom of the pile (also the ones I need). Most of the boards are rough cut, and about 10 ft in length. Width varies from about 4" to 14"+ Hoping to find the right pieces to have a guitar or 2 made from it. There is also a decent sized piece of ebony to use for the fretboard.. provided its a good piece.

We have to break out one of the windows in the attack of his old vetrinary office (now a garage) to get the pile out.. they re-moddled around when he died, and converted the building into the garage, and left a lot of the heavy-impossible-to-move-out-of-the-attic-stuff up there .

It would have been nice if my family had moved all of the heavy stuff out (like a very heavy wood lathe) BEFORE they took out the stairs.

Your not kidding.. its going to take hours just sorting/moving the pile. I cant imagine how much work it is goin g to take making those pieces into usable wood.

I have a full stand planer if you need the use of it... unlike dougs, its not movable but gives much cleaner cuts.

if your looking for a whole seller for the wood, try stopping by Owl Hardwood with a few pictures [they deal with alot of exotic and rehabbed wood].

The large bulk of the wood is going to my uncles. I just get my choice of pieces for guitar building (maybe plus some extra). I will probably take you up on that offer Terry, when we move the pile out of the attic and I can actually remove the pieces I need. there is one huge board about 18" wide and about 3" thick at the very bottom of the pile.. provided there are no soft spots or knots, I think I am going to swipe that piece. there are also a few 6X6 center cuts that I think would be good neck material.

The stand has nothing to do with how clean cuts are that only has to do with how perfect your edges are and a good feed motor helps too.

I can assure you a stand unit is infinitely superior to a portable unit.

    Re: I have wood!

Ive used a dozen different counter top and stand units and im afraid to tell you your TOTALLY wrong. Some stand units suck and some table tops kick ass. While most are EXACTLY the same model just bolted to a base or not.
