    In Dash GPS

I've sold my deck out of my 1999 Cougar for the purpose of buying a nice In-Dash GPS unit.
Apparently only Single DIN units will fit and I cannot find anything decent. Does anyone have any suggestions of a decent GPS navigation that would fit? Or would it be too difficult to cram a 2 DIN in the hole?

Use the search feature, it's been covered a lot. Probably in the Audio and Electrical section.

Purchase an 01/02 dash bezel (the trim piece the radio and HVAC controls are in). It has a square opening, which works for a lot of double-din units. You still need to do some cutting on the back, but it isn't horrible. I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 installed.

    ..That's what she said.
To answer your question, yes a double din Navi/DVD will fit in a Cougar.
However you will need the radio/HVAC bezel out of 2001/2002 Cougar. But it must have the square opening.
A lot of material must be removed from the inside of the radio cut out for the HU to fit.
You won't be able to use the mounting cage or the trim ring that comes with the HU.
Theres just not enough room for it to fit in there. (Again, thats what she said)

You must also purchase a(an) Ranger/Explorer double din adaptor plate to fill the gaps on the left and right of the screen in the bezel.

I just did this all today in my car.
I have an Alpine IVA-W505, and the NVE-P1 Navi/Bluetooth unit.
It's an awesome set up with a ton of usefull features.
The GSP is okay, does the job, but is a little dated.

Jasonspero has a touch screen double-din in his car. Install looks pretty clean so hopefully he'll chime in.

    Re: In Dash GPS

Here's the final install of my Eclipse AVN6620.. the picture quality is crap, and I've mounted the microphone for the bluetooth in the4 button console (anti-theft/rear-defroster.. my car doesn't have traction control)

As you can see when in 3rd or 5th the screen still has room to slide down, but just barely. Luckily this screen allows custom tilt, because otherwise I'd say the viewing position for the passenger is a bit low.

The integration into the car is amazing though, the bluetooth through the car speakers and the equipped microphone is incredible. The navigation system audio instructions work on the front left speaker and is pretty slick.

The DVD player / AUX video doesn't work when the parking brake is engaged, but you can just ground off the lead from the stereo and it'll work all the time. (Thats illegal I believe, so don't do it. hehe)

I can take more pics or demo on a video if anyones interested..
