Re: Importing a cougar from canada to us

Differences: Daytime running lights, KMPH (just overlays are different, the MILES are stamped on there so it's not a thing you HAVE to change).

Other than that they are the same. In Ontario we have emmissions laws that are similar to Californias, but are specific to the emmissions output ONLY (not the sight on scene stuff).

Bringing the car in....you will likely have to pay your state taxes when you transfer the title. You are going to need the ownership signed by the owner, and have the Canadian sellers package for the car (available for $25 from the Canadian DMV) signed by the owner. From there on out, it's pretty much the same as buying a used car in your state.

As far as emmisons I know that in PA we just plug it into the OBII port and if the comp says ots ok then its ok. I also know that the cougar will throw a CEL if it is outside of emmisons. Im unsure of the visual thing, but I am pretty sure that while they have the car up on the lift looking at the brakes and tires they would notice that there is or isnot a cat. The car comes with a cat but its new in a box in the trunk, I have to have it welded on.

OK so he has to get the sellers package, I know about state taxs when I transfer the title. What about duties? or paper work from customs? I read about needing to have proof that car came across leagaly.
But its confusing becasue it all talks about having the car imported by either an importer, or shipped across, or if you own the vehical and are just moving to a new country. I cant find somthign specific to what Im doing. He is driving the car to the US to give it to me. We will do the paper work in the US.

Im gogin to have to get a temp tag so I can drive it home from Buffalo to Pittsburgh. I belive that all I need to do that is the vin# and proof of ownership (like a bill of sale or transfered title), and proof of insurance.

Re: Importing a cougar from canada to us

does the car with the turbo pass emisions now. if not uninstall the kit, reinstall stock manifolds and y pipe. get it tested then u are good for emissions.

for the transfer of title. i am not sure will you have to apply for a new title. you are going to have to apply for some new info for the car i bet. but i think ur making htis more painful than it is. go down to ur local dmv and talk to one of the tellers....some times the stuff online is really confusing...

I dont know about more painfull than the DMV, you ever go to the DMV in a city? thats painfull.

I will end up there at some point, I just wanna make sure that I have everthing I need first so that I dont need to make multiple trips.

Car does not currently meet emmisons, the cat is still new in the box in the trunk and not welded on. Once I get the car and I can see whats involved. With the cat welded on and a decent tune I should hopefully pass because they just do OBDII port scans in PA. I just need a garage that is not too picky on the visual.
