0-60 times?

Hi everybody, new member and relatively new Cougar owner. I'm looking for real world 0-60 times from you guys and gals. I get an inaccurate (using a crappy timer) 11 seconds. The timer I'm using has no .005s so maybe 10.5s. I have a bone stock 2000 with ATX, 46,000 on the odo, and was timing this with a full tank of 87 octane, 72 ambient temperature. I got the same time from idle and converter dumps. Is this about right? All the 0-60 times I see on the net are 7.8, 7.9, 8.0etc, so my time seems rather slow. I just wanted to check with you guys before I start ripping things apart under the hood trying to find what's wrong.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section and yes, I did try the search function. Thanks!

Re: 0-60 times?

Hey there! According to this article, the stock platform takes just under 11 seconds to reach 60mph. This car was an ATX as well.

I wouldn't worry too much; maybe you weigh more than this guy, or your tires are newer, or the roads are worse. Or maybe your IMRC is at fault; do you feel more pull at 3000 rpms than you do at 5500?

Re: 0-60 times?

Yeah, those 7.xx times are for the manual transaxle.

Your automatic sounds about right.

Re: 0-60 times?

Wow - even at stock? If I push my car, staying above 4000 rpms, I have a hard time reaching 0-60 in 9 seconds. My shifts are smooth too...if anything, I could work on takeoff, but I doubt that's to blame for 1 - 2 seconds. I just can't determine whether or not my IMRC is effed - I get about the same pull throughout the 3500 - 5500 range. I don't like to push it further because I just...dont want to break it. /hijack

Re: 0-60 times?

Thanks for the quick replies. My car starts off slow but once it hits around 3200 it pulls hard to the shift point (around 6250). Now that I know the acceleration figures are about right I won't worry about it.

Re: 0-60 times?

well a friend of mine was testing his car 0-60 (ford escort mk7 1.8 16v zetec 115hp) and said he did it in 9.2s, and when we went to race at one abandoned road i blew him away with 2 cars ! the same day i've smoked a 2.0 16v 115hp nissan primera, i've raced with bmw e36 320 6 inline vanos 150hp 3 times (it's my cousines bmw) and took him down 3 times.

I am fully stock except the chopped cat. and the missing spare tyre
I have a JR replacement filter, but i think that the paper filter is better...

All these cars are less than 10 seconds at 0-60 "internet" information

Thats your secondaries kicking in. Completely normal. Your ATX isnt out of the normal, they are dog slow. Best thing you can do, is do a complete UIM / LIM cleaning, sea foam, replace plugs afterwards, regrease (diaelectric) your wires, and do a fresh oil change. I bet shell feel much better.
