Amber/White Turn Signals?

Well I"m confused about this. I read everywhere that your turn signal (the one inside the headlamp not on the side of the car) HAS to produce an amber light. Be it clear reflector/amber bulb or amber reflector/white bulb.
HOWEVER in the Century Code (ND State Laws) it says the colour can be "amber or white, or any shade in between." People here in Bismarck have taken up on this and I've seen a few cars with white turn signals. I read up on this because of a soon to be Aussie install. Where does the "Legal is ONLY amber" law come from? Is it some federal law that overrules state laws?

Re: Amber/White Turn Signals?

I'm pretty sure laws vary by state concerning motor vehicles and such (tint, light colors, etc.)

Re: Amber/White Turn Signals?

As Tygerr says laws ma vary by state.

From what I've read as you stated the bulbs may be white or amber. But you are supposed to have amber reflectors. Most law enforcement won't ding you for it unless they're being jerks. But on the books is where the rules come from.

Re: Amber/White Turn Signals?

Oh that must of been it, reflectors had to be amber. I thought they just wanted you to produce an amber light. I may have some more reading up to do...
