Help regarding CA emissions.

I am moving to Ca from Ohio and we used to have emissions test but I've heard that Ca test are more strick. I have a 99 cougar. Does anyone know if I will run into problems registering it? Thanks.

Re: Help regarding CA emissions.

CA emissions are more strict, you shouldn't have any problems with a stock or fairly stock car.

However, CA does not require a full inspection like many other states do. And many places that do a smog check don't even care about aftermarket intakes, etc.

Re: Help regarding CA emissions.

I would just hate to fix up my car(instead of buying a new one) drive it out there and be told to get more work done. I'll have to look into it more. Thanks

Re: Help regarding CA emissions.

if you have anything on your car that doesnt have a CARB number on it, you'll fail the inspection. Ex: intake, headers, etc. Then they do the sniffer test and see if you pass the exhaust portion. CA emissions suck.

Not quite. My car has aftermarket intake on it with no CARB sticker, and my buddy's car has headers. The shop that did the smog failed to recognize either part as not being OEM and thus the car passed "visual" inspection.

Emissions wise, CA is strict, yes. But I have an untuned 3L/SVT Contour and it passed smog. (Gutted pre-cats).

Just be glad that CA isn't like many other states that check your windshield, tires, etc, and do a full safety inspection on the vehicle before allowing you to be "registered".
