Reimbursement from Ford for fuel pump replacement on returnless Cougar?

Not for me but my roommate.

He has an '02 and the fuel pump took a dump on him. He had the car towed to a local garage who claimed to run his VIN and alleged he was not covered under recall. Needing his car fixed, my roommate told the shop to just go ahead and fix it.

I didn't get wind of this until today, but as soon as I did I had my roommate call Ford and check his VIN. And guess who IS, in fact, covered under the recall?

By this time of course the local shop has the car half apart and wants to charge him $500 to put it back together, even though they never should have dug in to it to begin with. They suggested just having my roommate contact Ford and get reimbursed for the shop repairing it.

I was just curious if anyone had done this and been successful with it.

Have him get a receipt for everything and he will get reimbursed.

Yeah, I told him to get receipts and all the parts and whatnot. I just hope Ford doesn't give him too much of a hassle. Any ideas who to go through? Local dealership first maybe yes?

Might as well call Ford Customer Care. I'm sure a dealership wouldn't have a clue let alone help you get money for free.

Re: Reimbursement from Ford for fuel pump replacement on returnless Cougar?

My local ford dealership was pretty helpful/smart when it came to recall issues. I called them up, gave them my vin, and they said bring er on down.. pretty easy. Id start with the local dealer. But I wouldnt give the local shop a DIME, as its their fault.

OTish, but I've been wondering this for some time.

Was this ever actually made a recall? The notice I received from Ford was about a warranty extension out to 100k miles and completely different than the recall notices I've received for other items.

Hi Sonza. Yes you are correct. It was not an official "Recall", but a "Warranty Extension". And actually, according to the notification I received, and Ford's documents on the NHTSA website, it is a 10 year/no mileage restriction Warranty extension.

Not to cover/make excuses for the garage where BBOX's friend had the work done, but if all they did was look up official "Recalls", the Warranty Extension for the fuel pump may not have come up on the database they use. Of course, if they had access to and looked up TSB's and other technical data, it should have come up.

Good luck.

If they do reimburse how many months do you think it will take to get the check in hand?
