what kind of oil do you use?
I was just wondering how many people use what type of oil. I'm sure this will start some oily flame war about whether it's worth it to get good oil but whatever, I'm just curious as to who actually uses what. As for me, I use full synthetic :D And I bet I would be able to go far past 3000 miles if my K&N filter didn't let through 2-3x the particles
it was running kinda rough and giving me very little gliding power in idle at like 3100 last time ![]()

Re: what kind of oil do you use?
I've always heard that by 90k, if you didn't use synthetic you shouldn't start. Buildup of sediments from regular form seals over the seams in your tank. If you start using synthetic, you're liable to have a oil leak.
So I use regular for now. My new car will use synthetic. |

Quaker State High Mileage, in the red bottle. It's my new choice for all of my cars.
I tried full syn for a while, and found I had to add oil after about 3000 miles. Screw that.

Re: what kind of oil do you use?
Mobil 1 Full Syn every time since the beginning. 5w-20 if I can find it, 5w-30 works as well. Change it every 5k. Motorcraft oil filters.
I had the dealer change the oil once (20 bucks is cheap for an oil change) and they used the Motorcraft syn blend. I didn't like the way my car ran on it. I changed it 3k later to Mobil 1 and it felt so much better.

Re: what kind of oil do you use?
I've heard that if you switch to full synthetic from regular after using regular for a long time you can cause leaks becuase the regular oil has natural sediments that fill tiny cracks that appear after time. Anyway, I use synthetic blend most of the time, or full but rarely use regular.

Re: what kind of oil do you use?
Yes, it can cause small leaks. I know because I am currently fighting off leaks after switching to Q Horsepower full synth in my Blazer...
Damned 20 year old rubber oil filter relocation hoses!

Re: what kind of oil do you use?
wow the switchover thing is good to know. I thought you guys were gonna say cuz there's more built up sludge and junk in there and synthetic can't hold as much but I didn't know it's cuz of that reason. I bet they make an additive for that. Actually, valvoline makes a special high mileage version that has different stuff in it to hold more dirt and do who knows what so that might be safe. I use Valvoline regular full synthetic cuz it had 73,000 miles last time :D but next oil change I'm going for the high mileage version. And yes, I know, that brand is unbelievably expensive but I like it
I think it's over $5 per quart.
