Ford screwed up. Check the link in my post, thats the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for Ford dealerships. Be careful, I've had dealerships try to tell me to use ATF even after the TSB has been issued.

And yes, 01-02's are 5W-20 (although I haven't heard of any problems using 5W-30 in an 01-02).

And I'm still running the stock 2.5.

Re: what kind of oil do you use?

Always nice to know that Ford messed up on something that important. And the 5w-30 is fine to run in the engine, probably better actually, but the 5w-20 gives improved gas mileage.

Re: what kind of oil do you use?

5W-30 Royal Purple with Mobil 1 or K&N filters every 4-5K miles. 95,000 and don't use any oil between changes.

Actually, the 99-00 are also now recommended 5w-20, the recommendation is backwards compatible. And there is no problem with 5w-30 in either model year range. I've used both - Motorcraft 5w-20 semi-synth during warranty period, and Mobil 1 5w-30 since then.

Re: what kind of oil do you use?

Sorry to bump this but I'd just like to say I just changed my oil and put in RP's 5w30 with a Motorcraft FL-820S
I've never changed the oil myself until now but I wanted to know if anyone else has had to put 6 qts in their engine. this is strange to me and seems like too much but it said the capacity in the manual was 5.8 quarts... Also, how often should i change out RP? Every 5000 miles?

6 quarts are fine.
honestly, RP is a full synthetic so i would go even longer than that.

I go 20,000 miles between changes on my Amsoil.
