Re: what kind of oil do you use?

Not to beat a dead horse, but "full synthetic" is Group III Oil. Which means it still has dino oil in it.

100% Synthetic (true synthetic) is a Group IV (or Group V) Oil, meaning no dino.

"Full" Synthetic is a marketing term meant to deceive people. There was a lawsuit about this a few years back.

Re: what kind of oil do you use?

Group IV's include:

Royal Purple
Amsoil
RedLine
German Castrol (what i use in the e46)

Some of these brands make blends too, check the PAO rating (Poly-Alpha-Olefin).

Re: what kind of oil do you use?

Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5w-20 at the dealer during the Cougar's warranty period.
Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-30 since then in the Cougar.
(The Motorcraft 5w-20 syn blend gets high marks from BobIsTheOilGuy too.)

Valvoline or Quaker State (whichever is cheaper that day) High Mileage in the wife's Vulcan Taurus.

Mobil 1 in the Duratec Contour as soon as it's running again.

I don't put much stock in the synthetic causes leaks stories. Anecdotes. And I don't care if it's group ying or group yang, I only care it does its job and doesn't break down in the 5000 miles or 6 months it's in my engine. I've never had a motor fail yet

Re: what kind of oil do you use?

I never noticed any leaks when I switched, but the car did start to USE oil, as in I had to add a quart.

When I run dino, I never have to add any oil unless I'm pretty far past the change interval deadline.

Re: what kind of oil do you use?

I use 5w20 Motorcraft synthetic blend and a Motorcraft FL-820S filter.
I change the oil somewhere between 3000 and 5000 miles.

YES, my mustang uses the same oil filter as the duratecs.

That's pretty cool. You could find 'em cheap and stock up.
