2008 NECO Calendar Chat thread

If you have questions, comments, suggestions, opinions, etc... on the 2008 NECO Calendar, they can be discussed here.

Please review the info here first. It will have answers to alot of the questions you have.

To keep the topic from being spread over the lounge, photos/videos, general and whatever other forums, please keep your calendar conversations to this thread. Likewise, OT posts will be removed/edited to keep this a Q & A.

Re: 2008 NECO Calendar Chat thread

Sweet. Thanks for taking the lead on this one Goldie.

You say photos need to be horizontal. Does that mean the photo needs to be straight on horizontal or can I till my shoot to try and capture the photo in a more interesting manner. So long as the printed photo is intended to be viewed/printed in a landscape format would that be acceptable?

Also, not that I claim to be any type of photographer or photoshopper but are the submitted photos to be completely untouched, and can we apply special digital effects to the photo if we feel so inclined? Obviously the effects would be done in an attempt to improve the photo, and of course if this was allowed I would assume that any edited photos would be subject to the same final selections rules as any other photos. So, if the way it was edited it would not print well it would get axed.

Thanks,
Dan

I'd say something like lightly "sharpening" an image should not be a problem. I'll let someone else make that call though.

As long as the "intended" is landscape, I would say that works... but if it's style seems to be at odds with the rest of the chosen photos (like my attached PH below), it could yanked.

Correct Dan. If you have photoshop ability, I would encourage you to touch up, edit, do whatever you think makes your photo calendar-worthy, and like you mentioned, still within the print quality standards. Also, if your photo is selected as one of the finals, and you feel it should not be further altered, bring that up off-line so those producing the final artwork to be printed can work with you so everyone is happy

Re: 2008 NECO Calendar Chat thread

One thing that was missing greatly from the 2006 calender was WHO'S COUGAR IS IT?? I was constantly having to try to remember from memory who's Cougar was which. I'd be happy with just a simple "Real Name/Screenname/Hometown" bit added to the bottom corner, but however the head honcho's of this wanna do that is up to them.

I'm interested to see what the deadlines will be. Provided I can somehow fix this Cougar, September will bring ALOT of change to the car, for the better. I'd love to be able to submit something then...

It makes sense to me to eliminate pictures that aren't print-quality before voting. That way people aren't wasting time and votes on pictures that will never make it.

Re: 2008 NECO Calendar Chat thread

I would say submit the picture as you think it should appear. Then if it gets selected and needs MINOR touch-up (shading, brightness, etc) to be fit for print, the committee will take care of it.

If it is obvious it will not work (wrong orientation, low quality, fingers over the lens ) it would not be included. However, there may be ones that appear to be workable with some touchup (would not be done until finals are picked). If after working with the photos, it still doesn't print well, it would be passed up for the next in line.
The ultimate goal is to get a professional looking calendar together of our cars, with photos submitted/selected by everyone, however, photo quality will take priority. And while hi-res is required, that is not the only thing that makes a photo "quality". Like a photo of a cougar with totally unrelated stuff going on right next to it or behind it - could be a beautiful car, but a reflection of a wal-mart sign going down the side of it would not be good.
