For another rapid topic change (hope noone gets whiplash here), is anyone familiar with multistage turbos? Specifiacally manufacturers of said turbos.

You may want to look at the 3rd Gen RX7's with their twin turbo set up was what could be called a multistage turbo system, however i think the trend in turbo tech is moving more towards a variable vane turbo, there was one company a few years ago called Aerocharger that used the variable vane technology but they seem to have stopped making them or went out of business. Garret/Honeywell also has a few variable vane turbos but they are for deisel applications since the EGT on petrol motors is to high for the vanes to operate properly

once again for kentucky:

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Since no one from kentucky is in here, I don't understand why you are translating. However, I would also like to point out that just because tire rubber talk is boring does not mean that turbo talk is boring. Two very different topics.

Nevermind, I suck at reading comprehension. I thought you said that I might be running ES.

This was a request from someone working on high altitude aircraft, and they specifically wanted to know about multi stage turbos. Their unnamed vendor is "is no longer a viable source" and they were fishing for alternate options. I know BMW has gone this route on their diesel, and I've seen a few others as well. I'll keep diggin around.

I initially thought about variable geometry, but they are operating in a completely different environment up there and may have their reasons for going this route. I'll mention this and see if maybe it is something they overlooked.
