This is the same argument we have all the time. The short throw shifter on a Manual Transaxle is not the same as a short shifter on a Manual transmission. The pivot point doesn't change on our car like it does on say a Mustang, where the shifter is directly connected to the transmission without any cables. So in reality the Short shifter for our car is only doing half the job compared to one on a Mustang. Now steeda did make a true short shifter for the focus that changes the pivot point, I think with a little customization it would work on the Cougar. The B&M one for our car only shortens the length of the shaft above the pivot point, So (this is where people start to argue) being a shorter distance to travel is where you can make faster shifts. If only by a tiny little bit. But in drag racing, times are measured in 1/1000th of a second so every little bit helps. In every day driving it doesn't really make a difference. Now on top of all that, You will notice that the B&m shifter feels allot tighter and this is where you notice the difference in everyday driving. When Mine broke and I had to put my stock one back in. It felt like driving a transport truck. The stock one is way to long and is sloppy as hell. So people cut down there stock one. Yes that will give you the extra 1/100th of a second on the drag strip but you still have a sloppy shifter for daily driving.

That is the funniest thing I've heard. LOL are you sure one of your friends haven't put some chick up to it? With caller id as it is, people know the correct number of who is calling them.
