Re: The Undead Gateway Thread

Well . . . it appears that its Grossman/Orton or bust for the Bears . . . I didn't expect a high-round selection of a quarterback, but I am a little surprised they didn't pick one yet, and the only quarterback left I'm even mildly excited about is Andre Woodson out of Kentucky, and he's projected as a project anyways.

Well, despite some people looking favorably on the Bears draft, not all is happy in the paper football world.

The thing that drives me craziest about the draft is when you see a team with talent not doing enough to bolster the most important position on the field, over and over and over again. With Chad Henne, who absolutely should have been a first-rounder, and solid guy Brian Brohm on the board, the Bears passed on both and picked a very productive running back from Tulane, Matt Forte.

There's a slight chance -- maybe 20 or 25 percent, I'd say -- that the Bears have their quarterback of the future on the roster in either Rex Grossman or Kyle Orton. Maybe. But whether you believe it or not, you have to admit it's silly not to backstop the most important position in sports. What is it about the undying love of Grossman that makes Chicago unable or unwilling to turn the page?
Personally, I don't see the qb situation being that desperate. With solid protection either Grossman or Orton can be effective. They aren't going to be the next Manning or Favre, but they don't need to be if the rest of the team is solid.

Re: The Undead Gateway Thread

The simple fact Peter King thinks Chicago - the city OR the franchise - has "undying love" for Grossman should tell you just how qualified he is to evaluate anything.

Re: The Undead Gateway Thread

I know. Some of these analyses are fun to look at years down the road because more often than not, they are really quite wrong.

Re: The Undead Gateway Thread

Thats why all this folly about instant evaluation is a bunch of hooey if you ask me.

As far as the quarterback situation in Chicago . . . this was a weak draft class for quarterbacks. I wouldn't have minded picking up Woodson late in the draft, but he was gone by the time the Bears came back around in the 7th. None of the others do anything at all for me. Brohm and Henne are garbage. I don't know how next year's quarterback class is compared to this one, but I think this is Sexy Rexy's last chance to show he can get it done. If he can't, the Bears will have to draft a quarterback after next year and have Orton as a stopgap for 2009.

Re: The Undead Gateway Thread

3 months of training, many hours of running, and one IT band injury takes my marathon down to a half with my second to worst running time. The worst half marathon time was due to being 8 mos pregnant with Shana. In mile one they were tossing out these wrist bands to the runners when this lady did a u turn right into me and I got road rash. She never said sorry, just grabbed a band and looked at me.
