Sigh . . . if I didn't have the dilemma of what to do with two cars . . .

Re: The Undead Gateway Thread
so I got the rotors in today, brake pads yesterday.
tom I need your input, do you think I'm capable of swapping rotors and pads myself. I looked through the chiltons manual the other day and am a bit intimidated, bit more complicated than the cougar. I REALLY need to get these in and cant afford professional work at the moment [that would put me over a grand this month on towncar brakes if I did]

interesting, but not useful in figuring out who it is

Re: The Undead Gateway Thread
If they are the same as on the Mark VIII, the rear calipers are a PITA to retract. It took two people for me to get it to work (one to hold the caliper and one to rotate the piston). Other than that, they weren't all that different than the Cougar.

Re: The Undead Gateway Thread
ya they are the same and the rears were exactly what scared me.
I think I'll attempt the fronts myself and hold off on the rears for the moment. is it safe to replace just the fronts? the brakes and rotors all around are BARELY drivable. the pedal is about as close to the floor for just light braking.

Re: The Undead Gateway Thread
The general recommendation is to replace brakes as axel sets (both fronts or both rears), but front and rear don't have to be done together. Since the fronts do more work, I'd recommend getting them sorted first. If the pedal is that soft, the brakes may not be fully bled from your hard line change.
