PORTSMOUTH -- A 21-year-old city woman grabbed a state trooper's genitals four times and punched another trooper in the face while being booked for driving under the influence of alcohol, said state police.

As a result, Taryn McCarthy, of 529 Union St., was arraigned Wednesday on charges of aggravated driving while under the influence, driving while intoxicated and five counts of simple assault. The charges allege McCarthy was driving drunk at 3:20 a.m. New Year's Day, before being stopped by state police.

One of the simple assault charges alleges McCarthy told Trooper Nicholas Cyr she would punch him in the face, then threw a punch, striking another trooper.

A second simple assault charge alleges she grabbed Cyr in the genital area while reading a police form and after being told not to touch him. A third simple assault charge alleges McCarthy grabbed Cyr's genital area while taking a breath test and again during the same breath test after being told not to touch him.

The fifth simple assault charge alleges McCarthy grabbed the trooper in the genitals a fourth time while being administered a second breath test.

The aggravated driving under the influence and DWI charges allege McCarthy was driving while intoxicated on Route 1 northbound before Breathalyzer tests showed her blood alcohol concentration to be .16.

During her Wednesday arraignment, McCarthy's bail was set at $5,000 cash; she was court ordered to live with her mother, observe an 8 p.m. curfew and get a job.

McCarthy requested the services of a public defender and is scheduled for a June 19 trial.

She has also petitioned the court for an exemption to her curfew to work a job through a Boston modeling agency on Feb. 21. The court has 10 days to rule on the modeling job request, which is being contested by the prosecution.
