3l?????

So I just got my job as an Installer and a nice little pay raise to go along with it. On top of that they are going to move me up to full time for the summer, so I have been thinking about doing something fun with the cougar. Anyways I have debating on doing a 3L with SVT cams and a Limited Slip and new clutch or throwing on a nitrous kit, wheels and a tune, or saving up this summer and fall buying the new turbo kit and throwing that on next summer. What do you guys all think because the project would be to big for just my self to do and we could get a nice meet out of the thing. I have got another car that I could drive around if swap take more then 3 days.

Re: 3l?????

haven't done the nitrous or turbo...so, that'd be something that would probably take a lot of time, especially with all the piping for the turbo...just guessing. Doug and I have swapped a motor in a couple days, BUT, that's just a straight swap. If you had the 3L motor, it depends on what you wanted to do....3L with 2.5 manifold, which would require the heads being welded, or the full 3.0...which needs some mods to. Both would take some time to do. Air tools would totally be recommended for a faster time. The big thing is time to do it...and enough people. The 3.0 you'll also need to eventually get a chip and get it tuned. I think that's pretty much it in a nutshell, anyone have input on a turbo or nitrous?

Re: 3l?????

If the 3L is prepped before the swap starts, it should be pretty similar to a straight swap, except for mods related to the 3L UIM if you go that route.

I wouldn't think nitrous would be too bad to install, but I've never actually done it before. As for the turbo, I get the impression from DanG that it is a much more involved process than it should be (he had to do a lot of work to make his fit right).

Re: 3l?????

Yeah the route I would want to go is the 3L with SVT Cams and UIM and TB so From what I understand we would have to do a port match to the 3L LIM. MSDS headers and Y-pipe tru bendz 2.5 dual exhaust with a gutted cat CAI which are all mods that are already on the car. new clutch and limited slip
I would get the Xcal 2 for the tuning and probally have Lowe preformence tune it. I know they installed a SVT 2.5 in a focus and turbo'd the thing and put out 450 Wheel hp. the guys name on the boards is Family. So i think I can trust them
As far as time goes I would want to be able to get it done in 3 or 4 days if possible but I would need all of your help to do it because I would not know where to start on the thing.
I have got air tool but don't have a house to do it.

so here would be the task help me price the whole thing together and then I will start buying everything for it as longs as it is not to expensive.

Buy the way slurpee you need to give me a ride in your 3L sometime soon because I want to feel the difference

Re: 3l?????

if I went the turbo route it would not be till next year till I have everything together and I would buy the kit that comes with just about everything from the guys over at CEG

I pm stealthy about a motor that he has

The heads, however, are good. They a ported and polished to use with 2.5/SVT manifolds. That took about 20 hours to do (porting takes a long time) so if you want to get a 3L shortblock from the junkyard for cheap that might be a decent course of action then I'll sell you the heads

If we went this route then we should be able to almost full assembly the new engine before we pull the old one out.

Re: 3l?????

I'd give ya a ride....but I have to get a new alt. here..mine's going out of course. There's some other things that need fixing...it's like a money pit. We'll do it someday here. I have to get the time to fix those things first though. It is a pretty good increase.

Re: 3l?????

3L stuff:
head gaskets, head bolts, get the heads matched up to the 2.5 manifold, intake gaskets, lots of towels for sure! I think that's all, but it's been a while since we did mine.
