after a leading for almost half-race, the Diesel-powered Peugeot 908 gives up the lead to also diesel-powered Audi R10.

I think many of us love racing, and i'd like to know what do you think about the domination of the diesel engine cars in this category

I don't follow racing, but I think its obvious the diesel or atleast biodiesel is the fuel of the immediate future. Long term I'm sure it will be replaced by something else, but for right now I think it the best, quickest, and easiest solution to get us away from fossil fuels.

The switch to diesel in LMP1 is largely a function of class rules. When Audi went from the R8 to the R10, the rules very much favored diesel powered cars which is also why Peugeot followed suit with the 908. That isn't intended to discredit modern diesels at all though, they have made impressive advances in recent years.

The Audi R10 diesel makes absolutely tons of power. And yet is without a doubt the quietest race car you'll never hear. Having seen it in action in Sebring and Road Atlanta, the car mimicks a stock Honda civic going down the highway.

And without a puff of dark smoke you'd associate with a diesel car.


The rules are already being equaled out as far as the diesel cars go. They already have to use a smaller fuel tank to minimize whatever fuel economy they get. Plus the fuel flow is restricted from the pump to the car's tank so it takes as long to gas up as a petrol car.
