Re: Honda makes first hydrogen cars
Awesome.
The problem of hydrogen being expensive to make may also be solved soon by Purdue U using an alloy.

Re: Honda makes first hydrogen cars
I'm just glad companies are looking into this sort of thing and actually going forward with it. I personally never understood the whole appeal of hybrids, it just seemed like a trendy "look at me! I'm halping teh environment!" kind of thing... you were STILL buying gas, the same as everyone else! To me, that wasn't solving anything.

Re: Honda makes first hydrogen cars
says the man with the monster 3L turbo cougar... hows the fuel economy on that now? It was more my point that a hybrid seems like temporary solution... If you found yourself in a showroom looking for a new car, and to your left there were hydrogen cars or some 80% efficient solar powered thing which required no gasoline, and to your right were hybrid/gas ones that did - would you still buy the one that had you filling up at $4~/gal every so often? |

Re: Honda makes first hydrogen cars
You're right. Hybrids are a step in the right direction, but the internal combustion motor is rather out dated. It's like putting a band aid on a bullet wound. It's nice to see new more efficent alternatives being formed.

Re: Honda makes first hydrogen cars
and maybe things like this start to popup: Honda's way around the problem of fueling its hydrogen cars—do it at home - Home Hydrogen Fueling Station: "Running on a home's existing natural gas supply, the Home Energy Station IV produces and stores hydrogen, while providing heat, hot water and electricity to an average-size home."

Re: Honda makes first hydrogen cars
I think its a step in the wrong direction and are just doing this for PR. I mean come on they are only planning on making 200 over the next three years. Where does that leave the rest of us 250 million +drivers?
Personally I would like to see a car company come back out with some natural gas vehicles. You can fill it up at home everyday and gas is really cheap. This could be used as a bridge to set up new stations and new technology to implement hydrogen service station in the future.

Re: Honda makes first hydrogen cars
I thought I read somewhere that a few other manufacturers have been deleloping the whole hydrogen idea? Wasn't GM one of them? As far as I know though, Honda is the first one to actually put them (even if its just 200) on the road. Am I wrong about that? ...I could be, but I'm preeeetty sure I would have noticed it in the news.

Re: Honda makes first hydrogen cars
yep, they are the first. GM version should roll out in 2010.
Then Ford will follow up with a cheap dependable, explosion proof hydrogen car... in 2013.
