I think that is quite a concept but that material would need to be pretty strong to withstand anything flying up and tearing it. Not only that but if someone wanted to tear into, it wouldn't be that hard to cut right through that material and get to the underlying structural pieces.
I wonder if the car would have a visual ripple effect when it cruised down the highway...

An issue would be the vehicle's structural integrity.. Imagine getting into an accident in one of those.. It's probably no more safe than getting hit by a car while sitting in a camping tent..
Unless somehow the material reacts to increased force, similar to cornstarch in water

I think you may have missed the first minute or so of that video- Underlying spaceframes are what keep you safe in a crash- His point was that the skin of the modern vehicle is there for little more than asthetics... Hence the thinking to make it into dynamic art. Very cool.
