Re: Have any of you read this crap?

another thing I heard was that when you are slowing down, for manuals, engine break (leave car in gear) because the car isn't using any gas compared to putting it in neutral and coasting. anybody heard of this?

Re: Have any of you read this crap?

I have heard of engine braking for increased fuel economy.

As for Rich's idea of shutting off at red lights...I test drove a Saturn Vue Greenline. It's the hybrid Vue, anyway, it shuts off the engine when the car is stopped then restarts when the accelerator is depressed. (not unhappy smarties)

This is true. When engine RPMs are above idle speed and you take your foot off the accelerator, the fuel is not injected to cylinders because it is not needed. At idle speed some fuel is needed to keep the engine running.

I think you can try this out when you reset the economy meter (sorry for bad terminology ) just after taking you foot off the accelerator. The economy meter should show high numbers in mpg or 0.0 in l/100km until idle speed is achieved or accelerator is pressed.

Most American cars dont have MPG guages, and the Cougar's isn't in real time, like say, the one in bimmers.

But they damn sure have 27 cupholders!

Re: Have any of you read this crap?

It shows real time for a moment if you have just made a reset for it
